Book illustrations Mama Botanica
When my dear friend Iris (aka Mama Botanica; plant mom and influencer) asked me to make illustrations for her second book “Een huis vol planten” I immediatly said yes! She asked me to find a way to showcase all of her plants in the 4 rooms of her house, and show where and how the natural daylight comes in. I made all illustrations on my Ipad using Procreate to open up every room and place them in the right light amount. It looks so good in print! Available on www.mamabotanica.com or in store near you in October 2020.
GROEI & BLOEI MAGAZINE – Juni 2020
BLOOT MAGAZINE #4
This was my second commission from magazine BLOOT! by the NFN in Holland. For this edition of the nudist’ magazine they asked me to make some illustrations for an article on hair removal and a couple’s drawing for a personal story. These commissions are always a lot of fun because I can simplify my style and draw cheeky little naked people :)
I made the illustrations by drawing a black outline on paper first and digitaly coloring them in with Photoshop.
BOOK JANE LEWIS
A few years back, I was traveling in Argentina and on a wine tour there I met Penny and her now husband George. We hit it off and I mentioned my illustration work to them. I guess that stuck with them! In July, Penny contacted me with the request to illustrate a book she was writing with her mother Jane. The book was about Jane’s (and so many other women) struggles with menopause and the diagnosis of vaginal atrophy she had received. She wanted to write a book about her personal issues and the findings in the search of a solution and the right medicine. I was so honored to work on this inspiring project and I hope the book will reach all the women struggling with vaginal atrophy as well as partners and family willing to learn about and understand the issue more.
The book was published in September 2018 and contained 11 digital illustrations of my hand.
BLOOT MAGAZINE #3
For a new edition of the magazine BLOOT! (NAKED!) published by NFN I illustrated an article on how to become a nudist, or at least let go of inhibitions to shed a few clothes :)
BOOK COVER YMKJE HETTINGA
In June 2016 my friend Ymkje Hettinga will finish her PhD research on childhood eye disease. She asked me to design the book cover for the publication of her research and it was a so much fun aswell as a great honour! She requested a youthful cover since the research tackles childhood eye disease. There were also some elements, like the hocky stick and the rabbit, that were requested by her lovely kids :). I used watercolour and some fine black ink for the details and I’m very happy with the way the cover turned out after it was printed!
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BLOGS
Since the start of my South-East Asia trip in April 2015 I’m part of the ‘Digital Nomad’ team for National Geographic Traveler Belgium/The Netherlands. As a Digital Nomad I write a short travel story twice a month and make two illustrations to go with each story. All my stories, about 400 words, have a single theme like a local dish, a particular animal, a course I took or a mode of transport. At the end of every story I give a little bit of advice called ‘my tip’. Since I write for the Belgium/The Netherlands department of National Geographic Traveler my stories are in Dutch but I took my latest blog about surfing in Sri Lanka and made an English version, click on the image below to read the article.
Click here to read all of my travel stories and see the illustrations I made for National Geographic Traveler. Curious to how I landed this job? Check out the photo below which I send to the National Geographic editors!
